.UK Grandfathering is for applicants who already own a third level domain like .co.uk, .org.uk or .me.uk, and who has the grandfathering rights to the matching second level .uk domain.
Two steps to Grandfather a .UK domain name. Please read this carefully:
Enter full domain name (i.e. mydomain.uk) into the search box above and click Search
If the .co.uk domain is taken, and it was registered before 29th of October 2013, and you own it, you are automatically granted the right to "grandfather" the latching .uk domain. Simply complete the order.
If the .co.uk is not taken, but one or more of the other third level domains are, then grandfathering rights are awarded in the following order of seniority: .org.uk, .me.uk, .net.uk, .ltd.uk and finally .plc.uk.
If you own the domain name in line to receive the rights, then simply complete the order.
If in doubt, read more below.
Note that only one domain is awarded the grandfathering rights.
The grandfathering rights are valid for 5 years, and will expire 10/6 2019, after which unused rights are terminated, and the domain names become available to the general public.
Grandfathering rights cannot be transferred down the chain. Below is a graphics explaining the order in which grandfathering rights are awarded:
