Apart from an IPv4 address, it is now possible to also add IPv6 addresses to the name server used by a Finnish domain name. Nevertheless, it is only allowed to add both these addresses to the name server information of the domain name on condition that the name server is actively functioning under the domain name.
For instance:
If the domain name model.fi utilises the following name servers,
ns1.model.fi
ns2.sun.fi
it is possible to add IPv4 and IPv6 addresses to the name server information, name server ns1.model.fi of the domain name model.fi. It is not possible to add IP addresses to the name server ns2.sun.fi due to the fact that the name server ns2.sun.fi is not a sub-domain name of the domain name model.fi.
The IPv6 address of the name server ns2.sun.fi can only be added to the information of the domain name sun.fi.
Restrictions:
The name server is required to always have an IPv4 address in addition to the IPv6 address. The Finnish domain name authority does not allow to add an IPv6 address only. The functioning of an IPv6 address may be verified manually and not mechanically by the domain name authority.
